Exercise

Benefits of exercise have always included improved cardiovascular health, weight management, muscle growth, better endurance and increased bone density. A positive effect, not often mentioned, is improved immune system function.

Electrical Stimulation and TENS

A treatment method that uses an electrical current to contract a single muscle or group of muscles. While providing increased muscle strength, these muscle contractions will help to increase the supply of blood to the area which promotes healing.

Joint Mobilization

Joint mobilization involves supplying the right force, velocity and direction of power to move restricted joints and to restore normal mobility. The joint is pushed in a way that a person can’t do without a physical therapist.

Heat

Moist heat, or hot packs, can be applied to your body if you’ve got an injury. The heat helps to boost circulation to the injured cells, and loosen the muscles, and provide pain relief.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound is a heating treatment performed gently against your skin near the area of your injury. Therapeutic Ultrasound may be used for treatment including the follow examples: Ligament Sprains, Muscle Strains, Tendonitis, Joint Inflammation, Plantar Fasciitis, Metatarsalgia, Bursitis, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Osteoarthritis

Traction

Traction is used in treating low back pain and neck pain to help decrease pain and increase mobility in the spine. Traction helps to separate the joints and disc spaces in the low back or neck, which then can help to reduce pressure on spinal nerves.

Massage

Utilizing the hands, a physical therapist knead’s the injured area to help alleviate pain, improve flow, and reduce muscle strain. There are many methods of massaging including effleurage, petrissage, and trigger point massage therapy.

Ice

If you’ve got an injury, then cold packs or ice may be applied to your body to help reduce pain and control inflammation. Ice is typically used during the initial phase of injury to restrict localized swelling around cells.
